Christopher R. Arsenault, 32, and Salem E. Welborn, 31, both of Kingston, were arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 4, after Dutchess County Sheriff's deputies responded to an alleged robbery in the Town of Washington, said Sheriff's Capt. John Watterson.

Deputies were alerted to the incident around 9:30 p.m. and responded along with State Police to the home on Route 82.

The victims, two of which received minor injuries, told deputies the men entered the home and forcibly removed a purse from one of the victims, Watterson said.

When deputies arrived on the scene, the suspects had fled in a vehicle, which was stopped a short time later just over the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge into Ulster County, Watterson said.

After an investigation, Arsenault and Welborn were taken into custody, he said.

"At this time this incident is not believed to be random and there doesn’t appear to be any threat to public safety," Waterson said.

Both men were charged with robbery and are being held at the Dutchess County Jail. Welborn is being held without bail. Arsenault is being held on a $40,000 bail.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police, Town of Red Hook Police, City of Kingston Police, Town of Ulster Police, and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation is continuing.
